Background
Following a career in General Nursing in Glasgow and Midwifery in Aberdeen, Moira decided to devote more time to her passion for singing.
Having started voice studies in Glasgow she continues these at NESMS (North East of Scotland Music School) in Aberdeen.
Originally Moira was a member of Haddo House Opera and Choral Society where she sang in Carmen and Macbeth. These productions ignited her love for performing on the stage, especially opera.
She subsequently joined Aberdeen Opera Company and Tayside Opera where she has enjoyed singing many principal roles.
My Musical Influences
Throughout my life music has been a constant source of joy. My parents played an eclectic mix of music from Perry Como, Nat King Cole to Beethoven & Mozart! My mother would spend afternoons at the piano playing classical pieces. Grandad was leader of Fife Strathspey and Reel Society so I was exposed to many influences.
Early favourites were Nana Mouskouri and Karen Carpenter for the beauty of their tone. I now enjoy Sumi Jo, Lisette Oropessa and Elina Garancia among many others.
When preparing solo work I enjoy the whole process of learning new repertoire, working on my own initially and then rehearsing with an accompanist which is even more fun and so rewarding as the work comes together and you share ideas about interpretation.
It's also great fun to be part of a music society/opera company and contribute to a show or opera and I would highly recommend it!
There is nothing quite like the buzz of live performance!
